The new ownership of Crossville Speedway opened on Friday night, to a huge crowd and an excellent car count.
The Late Models had 21 cars sign in for the night’s racing action. In qualifying it was C66 Donald Johns setting fast time with a lap of 12.925. The 25 lap feature started with Johns opening up a quick lead over 95 Brandon Williams, 29 Jason Welshan, and 2x Anthony White. Jay Brinkley took his 10 ride into the fray. There was great racing going on behind the leader, as positions changed every lap. Welshan got to Johns and made a quick move to take the lead. Williams and White followed in behind him. The top 3 continued to battle it out for possesion for the lead. White got by Williams for second. Welshan quickly found himself being the hunted, as White charged quickly towards him. White was in the tire tacks of Welshan for 3-4 laps and suddenly he made a power move in turns 3 and 4, and grabbed the lead with an awesome power slide. White would lead the few remaining laps to take the hard earned victory. Welshan finished in second, Williams was third, Brinkley fourth, and K37 Drew Kennedy rounded out the top 5.
14 Sportsman signed in for racing, and when it was all over 28 Brandon Stanfield took the win. 24 Phillip Thompson led some laps but ultimately settled for second. Z1 Zack Shannon finished third, 06 Wesley Lester was fourth, and 66 Jordan Rodabaugh rounded out the top 5.
There was 12 Open Wheels in attendance, and in the early going there was battles all over the track. In the end 28 Jeff Cotterman took the hard earned victory, with son 29 Joey Cotterman finishing in second. 92 Matthew Hopper finished third, 54 Eric Blaylock was fourth, and 47 Dax Edgecomb rounded out the top 5.
The Super Stock class saw 15 cars sign in. 51 Pete Wright battled his way to the big win. 44 Jamie Lackey finished second, 84 Jason Savage was third, 9 Bo Allison fourth, and B4 Darrin Busler rounded out the top 5.
Amelia McClain took her 717 ride to victory in the FWD class. 95 Nick Adams finished second, 17 JD Rector was third, 94 Justin Alderman fourth, and 3 Matt Sullivan rounded out the top 5.
The Dwarf class had 15 cars sign in for the night.There was great racing , as 2 and 3 wide action was the norm. There was also a scary incident when 31 Mike Brown rolled his car 3-4 times. In the end it was 21 Matthew Bohannon grabbing the win. 13 Ty Bowman finished in second, 51 Dwayne Allen was third, 28 Wesley Jones fourth, and 29 Scott Martin rounded out the top 5.
The next action at Crossville Speedway will be next Friday night (5/13), with a weekly racing program. Friday May 20, the Southern National Bonus Series comes to the track, bringing with them Super Late Models. It will be the first time that Supers have been at the track in 6-7 years.
